I enjoyed attending last nights event as Chair of The Hub on SX to see Fremantle put its ventures in the spotlight.
The event was held at the wonderful Walyalup Civic Centre, the future home of The Hub on SX.
At the Propel Fremantle Venture Showcase, founders shared how small but targeted grants have already helped them grow, hire, and get closer to market.
With 70 startups now calling Fremantle home, worth over $758m collectively, it’s clear that Fremantle is becoming a serious hub in WA’s innovation economy.
The night brought together founders, funders, and government leaders – moderated by Chrissie Maus GAICD, FAMI (CEO, Fremantle Chamber of Commerce) we heard from Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge GAICD, and Minister Simone McGurk.
The message was clear that hashtag#Fremantle is carving its own path, beyond mining, into a more diverse and resilient startup economy.
Some of the ventures showcased:
- Elbe Textiles – ethical sewing patterns, using their grant to refine business practices.
- Green Daisy AI – Sarah’s hybrid workforce platform, now at version 1.3, showing how AI can free founders to focus on customers.
- Geo Change – Alex’s local-to-global marketplace model.
- Carver Lights – sculptural, organic ceramics that bring warmth to interiors.
- Algaesys – unlocking biomass for clean energy solutions.
- G Propel – Sam’s engineering-led push toward zero-emission roads.
- YOLO Crackers – Peter’s sustainable dehydrated vegetable snacks.
- Glfn – Dan’s golfer-focused tech stack with global potential.
And of course, SeaStock , one of Fremantle’s most exciting biotech stories. From its base at Fishing Boat Harbour, SeaStock is scaling the use of Asparagopsis seaweed to cut methane emissions in cattle by more than 90%, while also building out a pipeline of bioactives and pigments. It’s a powerful example of how marine science, climate action, and commercial growth can intersect right here in WA.
