Developing Carbon Accounting and Green Skills Training

Client
Confidential Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
Location
Western Australia
Project Date
June – July 2023
A leading vocational education provider engaged Trestle Digital to assess the commercial opportunity presented by Australia’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The objective was to determine whether carbon accounting and green skills represented a viable new education market and, if so, develop a practical pathway for introducing new training products.
The Challenge

Rapid changes in climate policy, sustainability reporting and industry expectations were creating demand for new workforce capabilities. Organisations increasingly required practical knowledge in areas such as carbon accounting, emissions reporting, ESG and Net Zero, yet few vocational training providers had established offerings in these emerging disciplines.

The client recognised an opportunity to become an early mover but needed confidence that sufficient market demand existed before investing in new courses. It also needed to understand regulatory requirements, competitive positioning, target customer segments and the most appropriate delivery model for both accredited and non-accredited training

Our Solution

Trestle Digital undertook a structured market assessment before progressing to course development.

The engagement examined the commercial opportunity through analysis of market demand, regulatory drivers, customer needs, competitor offerings and broader macroeconomic trends influencing Australia’s transition to Net Zero. Rather than focusing solely on course development, the project first established a robust business case to determine where the greatest opportunity existed.

Building on this analysis, Trestle Digital designed a suite of training programs covering Carbon Accounting, Green Skills, Net Zero, ESG, the Circular Economy and related sustainability topics. Multiple delivery models were developed, including workplace training, professional development programs, partnerships with certification organisations and future accredited vocational qualifications.

The resulting framework provided the client with a staged roadmap for entering the market while allowing future expansion as demand matured

The Result

The project provided the client with a clear strategy for expanding into sustainability education through a combination of market analysis, product strategy and course design.

Rather than simply creating new training material, the engagement established a commercially grounded approach that aligned emerging workforce requirements with practical education offerings. The roadmap enabled the client to evaluate investment decisions, prioritise target markets and progressively build capability across carbon management and sustainability training.

The work positioned the organisation to respond to Australia’s growing demand for green skills while creating a scalable foundation for future course development and industry partnerships
