The City of Perth recognised that a vibrant technology sector is fundamental to economic diversification, innovation and the future prosperity of the city. Significant consultation had already been undertaken with startups, industry, investors, universities and government, resulting in a draft Technology Action Plan containing a broad range of proposed initiatives.
The challenge was to independently review and strengthen the draft strategy, ensuring that proposed actions were prioritised, evidence-based and capable of delivering measurable outcomes. The City also required a plan that could align stakeholders around a shared vision while providing a practical roadmap that could evolve over time
Trestle Digital undertook an independent review of the draft Technology Action Plan, assessing the proposed initiatives, validating priorities and refining the strategic narrative to maximise impact. Working closely with City leadership, the project included review of stakeholder consultation outcomes, enhancement of the strategic themes, qualification of proposed initiatives and assessment of implementation priorities and indicative investment requirements.

The completed Technology Action Plan was adopted by the City of Perth and provides a strategic framework for growing Perth’s technology ecosystem. It identifies priority initiatives to strengthen collaboration, attract investment, improve technology infrastructure and promote Perth as an internationally recognised technology destination.
The strategy established a coordinated approach to supporting technology-intensive businesses while recognising the important role local government can play as a leader, partner and advocate. It continues to provide a foundation for collaboration between government, industry, universities and the startup community in building a stronger innovation economy for Western Australia.
