Murdoch University engaged Trestle Digital to develop the strategic foundations for a university Innovation Hub that would strengthen research commercialisation, increase industry engagement and create greater real-world impact from its research. The engagement included development of the hub strategy, operating model, governance framework and business case, providing a practical roadmap for implementation
The Challenge

Murdoch University recognised an opportunity to build on its research strengths by creating an Innovation Hub that would connect researchers, industry, investors and government more effectively. The University wanted a model that would support research translation, encourage entrepreneurship and make it easier for industry to engage with university expertise.

The challenge was to determine the most appropriate hub model, define how it should operate and ensure it aligned with Murdoch’s long-term strategic objectives while delivering measurable value to researchers, students and industry partners

Our Solution

Trestle Digital undertook a comprehensive review of leading innovation hubs in Australia and internationally, combining desktop research with stakeholder engagement to identify the model best suited to Murdoch University’s ambitions.

The project delivered a recommended Innovation Hub model together with an operating framework, governance structure, business case and implementation roadmap. The design focused on strengthening research commercialisation, supporting entrepreneurial capability, improving industry collaboration and creating a sustainable platform for long-term innovation

The Result

The engagement provided Murdoch University with a clear and practical blueprint for establishing an Innovation Hub aligned with its research and innovation strategy.

The final recommendations included a phased implementation roadmap, operating model, governance arrangements, financial modelling and performance framework that will support future decision making and investment. The project positioned the University to strengthen research translation, deepen industry partnerships and create greater economic and societal impact from its research over the coming years
